Fraser Downs has highest handle in modern day

With the Pick 5 pool having expanded to over $62,000 and a guaranteed Pick 4 carryover pool totaling more than $26,000, there was an inspiring harness racing buzz throughout Fraser Downs Racetrack Friday night (March 31).

It resulted in the highest handle in years at Fraser Downs with an all-association handle of $337,845, leaving President of Harness Racing BC Kelly MacMillan thrilled with what he termed as “renewed fan engagement” and thanking them for their support.

“We’re definitely moving in the right direction,” MacMillan said.  “Everyone involved Is excited about the interest that’s been shown in our product, both by our supporters locally and through social channels.  It’s been great.”

The mood was set early on Friday night’s 9-race card when Brandon Campbell, Western Canada’s top harness racing driver, continued his fascinating string of victories with Outlaw C My Shadow (Shadow Play) trained and co-owned by Connie Kolthammer of Outlaw West Stable.

Campbell drove Outlaw C My Shadow to a ninth consecutive Open Handicap victory in Friday’s fourth race.  Campbell is the leading driver during the spring season at Fraser Downs with 60 wins.

Standardbred racing resumes Thursday and Friday with 7 pm PT / 10 pm ET starts.
